Ring-tum Phi Articles Recounting the 2000 Mock Con "I-Da-Ho" T-shirt catastrophe (with picture)

Subject

Black Student Experience
Black Female Experience

Description

The highlighted articles detail Washington and Lee's campus climate after the 2000 Mock Convention. The Idaho Delegation voted to create t-shirts with the phrase "I-Da-Ho" across the chest, and below it, a provocative and grotesque drawing of a black woman (pictured). Students show every emotion from outrage to annoyance in these articles. While some students believed that the image was offensive and degrading, others felt like it was a joke everyone was taking too seriously. Ultimately, the students involved were punished, and the faculty member who created the design was fired.
